The Operating system you choose will depend on the intended purpose and need. Alternatively, if you don’t want to use NOOBS – maybe your target OS isn’t included – you can use the Raspberry PI imager or Balena Etcher to install it on your SD card. If you don’t have the NOOBS SD card, you can download NOOBS and follow the official NOOBS setup guide. Powerful - Built on top of the famous RetroArch emulator, Lakka is able to emulate a large range of hardware and has some useful features such as Braid-like rewinding, joypad hotplug and video streaming. The operating systems currently included in NOOBS are: Lakka is a lightweight Linux distribution that transforms a small computer into a full blown emulation console. I personnally am more interested in Lakka, because the UI/GUI and the controller compatibility looks perfect for me, but i am ready to switch to RetroPie if the general performance is better then Lakka's. ![]() There are also other operating systems listed to choose from, but NOOBS will download these from the internet. I looked around on the raspberry pi 3 subreddit, and i saw very mixed opinions on whether to use RetroPie or Lakka. When you power a Raspberry PI with the NOOBS SD card, it will give you an installer screen with the Raspberry Pi OS and LibreELEC. ![]()
